CCU Theatre presents a fresh ‘Pride and Prejudice’

March 23, 2016

"Pride and Prejudice," Jane Austen's classic tale of a 19th-century English family's struggle to marry off its five daughters, is being performed by Coastal Carolina University's Department of Theatre from Thursday, March 31, through Saturday, April 9, at the 79th Avenue Theatre in Myrtle Beach. General admission is $17.

A whirlwind of romance and wit, Jon Jory's adaptation breathes new life into Jane Austen's timeless classic. With four sisters, a matchmaking mother and unwanted suitors, Elizabeth Bennet can't escape the ever-present obligation to find a husband. When the prideful and enigmatic Mr. Darcy enters her life, Elizabeth is faced with an intellectual (and handsome) rival. Can she put aside her prejudices and see through Darcy's stoic exterior, or will her stubbornness get in the way of finding true love?

The cast includes Paige Mason as Elizabeth Bennet, JP McLaurin as Mr. Darcy, April Pollock as Mrs. Bennet and Shelby Dangerfield, Kiarra Donnelly, Quinn Jones and Ashlyn Inman as the four sisters. John Woodson, visiting assistant professor in the Department of Theatre, plays Mr. Bennet.

Other roles are played by Kennedi Brunstad, Hannah Coffman, Mikayla Goetz, Michael Golino, Sophie Goron, Dalton Hedrick, Korilyn Hendricks, Brett Klock, Hannah Lewis, Autumn McNutt, Kailey Mixer, Zach Montou, Michael Onofaro, Duncan Overby, Erin Paxton, Elliott Smith and Niko Smith.
