CCU World Percussion Ensemble gives spring concert

March 31, 2016

The Coastal Carolina University World Percussion Ensemble will perform their spring concert on Thursday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. General admission tickets are $7, and discounts are available.

Student percussion groups performing in the concert include the CCU Brazilian Percussion Ensemble, playing the traditional "Samba Batucada," and "Maracatu de Baque Virado"; the CCU Afro-Cuban Folkloric Music Ensemble, playing the traditional Cuban "Ellegua"; and the CCU Steel Pan Band, playing four pieces, including "Telling Lies" by Christopher Tanner and featuring saxophonist Dan O'Reilly, a CCU instructor.

The CCU World Percussion Ensemble, winner of the 2015 Percussive Arts Society World Percussion Ensemble Showcase Competition, was invited to perform at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention this past November. This is one of the highest honors that can be achieved by a collegiate percussion ensemble. The ensemble, known for its high-energy and educational approach to performing, has been featured at several music festivals, conferences and schools throughout the southeastern United States. Jesse Willis is director of the ensemble.

Senior citizens, OLLI members, alumni, teens, and CCU/HGTC faculty and staff may purchase tickets for $5. Tickets for children and CCU/HGTC students are $3. To purchase tickets, contact the Wheelwright Auditorium at 843-349-ARTS (2787) or visit between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets may also be purchased at ticketreturn.com. The auditorium is located at 108 Spadoni Park on the Conway campus.
