The Coastal Carolina University Symphonic Band will present a South Carolina premiere during its spring concert on Thursday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. General admission tickets are $7, and discounts are available.

As part of the closing ceremonies for CCU's six-day Celebration of Inquiry conference, "Spring Fling" will feature the South Carolina premiere of James Syler's "Congo Square" for world percussion quartet, tympani, piano and wind ensemble. The CCU Symphonic Band has been granted special access to the work by the composer prior to its official publication because of the department's renowned reputation with world music percussion under the guidance of Jesse Willis and Joshua Frans of the CCU music faculty.

The Symphonic Band will also perform the music of Dana Wilson, Julie Giroux and Rossano Galante, as well as the finale of David Maslanka's "Second Symphony."

In addition to more than 50 CCU students performing in the band, the event will feature CCU music faculty members Richard L. Johnson, Raul Barcenes, Philip Powell and Matthew White.

Senior citizens, OLLI members, alumni, teens, and CCU/HGTC faculty and staff may purchase tickets for $5. Tickets for children and CCU/HGTC students are $3. To purchase tickets, contact the Wheelwright Auditorium at 843-349-ARTS (2787) or visit between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets may also be purchased at ticketreturn.com. The auditorium is located at 108 Spadoni Park, Conway.
