CCU presents Taste of OLLI for lifelong learning

During Coastal Carolina University's Taste of OLLI, from Thursday, Sept. 8, through Thursday, Sept. 15, noncredit-seeking students will have the opportunity to explore courses and clubs planned for the fall term of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), CCU's premier program for enrichment opportunities, at four locations. Presentations and demonstrations will be presented at each of the University's four outreach centers.

· Coastal Science Center, 301 Allied Drive, Conway, Tuesday, Sept. 8; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

· Myrtle Beach Education Center, 900 79th Ave. N, Tuesday, Sept. 13; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

· Litchfield Education Center, 14427 Ocean Highway, Thursday, Sept. 15; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

· Georgetown Education Center, 909 Front St., Thursday, Sept. 15; 2 to 4 p.m.

During the week, current and prospective students can sample the lifelong learning program for free, exploring more than 200 noncredit courses, workshops, special interest clubs and travel opportunities offered between Sept. 19 and the end of December. Topics include art and photography, computer technology, foreign languages, government, literature and writing, dance, music, theater and film, personal growth and skill development, philosophy and religion, science and nature, Lowcountry history, culture, and nature excursions. One of the benefits of the OLLI membership fee of $20 includes is discounts in the local area and to some CCU programs and events. Some of the discounts include programs at area museums (Brookgreen Gardens, Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum, Hobcaw Barony, Horry County Museum, Kaminski House Museum, North Myrtle Beach Area Historical Museum and S.C. Maritime Museum), musical and theatrical companies (Long Bay Symphony, Atlantic Stage and Theatre of the Republic), and health and wellness centers (Fit4Everyone, Fitness Edge, HealthPoint and YMCA).

OLLI@CCU is housed in CCU's Office of Academic and Community Outreach. The program provides opportunities for adult, noncredit students to achieve intellectual stimulation, as well as cultural and social growth. Lifelong Learning courses are designed to meet the needs and interests of mature adults in the local community. Courses are offered during day and evening hours at four convenient locations.
