"Welcome to Teal Nation!"

Hundreds of families were met with this greeting on Move-in Day this past Friday. Driving up to the residence halls in cars, vans and SUVs full of their student's belongings, parents and family members were met by more than 775 ChantiCrew members. This volunteer battalion of students, student groups, faculty and staff members unpacked every vehicle with a speed and courtesy that happily surprised many family members.

"They made it super simple and easy," said Pat Martz, who had driven 11 hours from Bellefontaine, Ohio, with her daughter Monica, an incoming freshman majoring in biology.

At Tradition Hall, the ChantiCrew leader was William Luck, who also works as an Orientation leader. The junior information technology major from Summerville, S.C., gave instructions to all the incoming families on Move-in Day procedures and periodically rallied his volunteers with the C-I-N-O cheer.

It was an emotional moment for parents as they said goodbye to their students. Many mothers prepared for the return trip home by stocking up with kleenexes. Donna Leone of Powhatan, Va., was optimistic about her daughter Angelique's decision to study marine science at CCU.

"I think if she applies herself, she'll be fine," said Leone. "When she puts her mind to work on something, she can excel!"

Approximately 2,300 new freshmen enrolled for the 2016-2017 academic year. The total projected enrollment for the fall semester is approximately 10,600 students.
