Coastal Carolina University's Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values has announced a series of panel discussions scheduled for Fall 2016. All events are at 4:30 p.m., but times are subject to change. The following September events are free and open to the public.

* Thursday, Sept. 1: "The Ethics of Freshman Year"

Johnson Auditorium (Room 116) in the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration In a panel discussion format, experienced CCU students and faculty discuss questions that typically occur during freshman year and consider various responses. The first year of college brings new friends, excitement and opportunities, but it often leads to unforeseen challenges: What do you do with the friend who will not leave you alone? How should you deal with a difficult roommate or a tough professor? How do you balance academics, work and social events? Panelists reflect on these and other questions pertinent to the freshman year experience.

* Thursday, Sept. 22: "Honesty: What is it? Is anyone really honest?"

Featured guest speaker Christian Miller, Ph.D., earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Princeton University and a doctorate from the University of Notre Dame. His work has appeared in journals such as Philosophical Studies, The Journal of Ethics, and Philosophy and Phenomenological Research. He is a professor of philosophy at Wake Forest University.

Tea & Ethics and panel discussion

The Tea & Ethics and Java Jabber event series presents specific and stimulating issues within the philosophical school of ethics. During the presentation, attendees are encouraged to enjoy complimentary tea, snacks and lively discussion. The presentation format varies from a single speaker to panel-style discussion. The event schedule is subject to change.

The Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values creates opportunities for open conversations about how ethics and values affect the individual, the university, the region and the world. It aims to inspire individuals to make ethical and value-based decisions, and thus live lives of courage, compassion and integrity.
