Wal-Mart donates $8,500 to CCU's LiveWell

August 24, 2016

Coastal Carolina University received an $8,500 donation from Myrtle Beach area Wal-Mart stores during CCU's recent "Back-to-School" event at the Carolina Forest Wal-Mart on Myrtle Ridge Drive in Conway on Aug. 19.

Area Wal-Mart stores pooled the cash donations, and store managers presented a check to CCU President David A. DeCenzo in front of the Wal-Mart location during the event. The contribution will benefit the LiveWell health initiative at CCU.

"We are excited about our partnership with Wal-Mart, and hope it will continue for many years to come," said Caesar C. Ross III, director of student health services. "Wal-Mart's donation will support ongoing university efforts to provide LiveWell activities for faculty, staff and students, with an emphasis on teaching personal responsibility for health and wellness."

LiveWell@CCU is a campuswide initiative that promotes the overall well-being of students, faculty and staff, connecting people to campus activities and easy-to-find resources that help everyone become healthy, engaged and more productive.

"Wal-Mart is one of Coastal Carolina University's largest retail providers," said Nancy Atufunwa, brand management director with Learfield Licensing Partners. "Their branded product is currently available in eight different Wal-Mart stores throughout the Conway/Myrtle Beach area. It's been a great retailer relationship for Coastal Carolina University because it has grown every single year through increased merchandise assortments and the number of stores that make their brand available for purchase."

Learfield Licensing Partners (LLP) is the exclusive licensing agent for CCU. LLP helps to protect and promote the University brand; it facilitates the licensing process for licenses, executes licensing agreements, monitors the marketplace for unlicensed use of trademarks, collects royalties and conducts compliance review audits of licensed manufacturers.

The check presentation took place during an event featuring various vendors. Shoppers, including many CCU students and families, received free food and drinks, and raffle tickets were sold for various items. Chauncey, CCU's mascot, was also on hand to greet visitors and distribute CCU merchandise. Aug. 19 was the first day of move-in weekend at CCU.
