Fischer and Myrick guitar duo to perform at CCU
A command performance, which includes a cocktail hour preceding the event and dessert reception afterward, will take place the following evening, Thursday, Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to the command performance are $50, and proceeds benefit scholarship opportunities in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.
Fischer, CCU assistant professor of music, has performed with Myrick for more than 10 years, and during that span the duo has perfected their unique form of improvisation and musical conversation. With Myrick on acoustic and Fischer on electric, the pair explores a wide range of sonic possibilities.
"We write music for guitars and leave room for improvising and see where everything goes," Fischer said. "Both of us have such faith and trust in each other that if one takes it in a new direction, the other goes with it. Because of that, every performance is quite different and, hopefully, fun."
Fischer and Myrick met in Los Angeles during their undergraduate work at the University of Southern California and perform together annually at venues around the United States as well as Italy. The duo recorded an original album titled Dodeca in August to be released this fall, and they plan to perform many of those pieces at the concert.
Musical contributors to the album include Bankston, CCU professor of music, and Willis, CCU assistant professor of music, who will both make appearances at the performance.
Teenagers, CCU and HGTC alumni, OLLI members, groups and senior citizens receive a 20 percent discount. CCU and HGTC students can purchase tickets for $5 with a student ID.
