CCU’s ‘Of Words and Music’ rescheduled to Oct. 18

October 13, 2016

The fall choral concert "Of Words and Music," presented by the Coastal Carolina University Chamber Choir in conjunction with Waccamaw High School, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Anglican Church of Conway. The concert was originally scheduled for Oct. 10 but was canceled due to the storm.

The performance will feature choral music accompanied by poetic texts. Selections include "Let Their Celestial Concerts Unite" by G.F. Handel, "Musick's Empire" by Lloyd Pfautsch, "I'm Gonna Sing 'till the Spirit Moves in My Heart" arranged by Moses Hogan and "How Can I Keep from Singing?" arranged by James Mulholland.

Terri Sinclair, associate professor of music and director of CCU choral activities, will lead the chamber choir; Sylvia Warr Plyler, chorus teacher at Waccamaw High School, will lead the Waccamaw High School choir.

"Many people are not aware of the high percentage of choral music that has been set to pre-existing poetic texts, although it should not be surprising that poetry is conducive to a musical setting," said Sinclair. "After all, poetry is an artistic expression like music."

The chamber choir, CCU's premier choral ensemble, has performed at the state, regional and national levels.

"This concert is a way to highlight [students'] accomplishments and talents in a unique way," said Sinclair.

Admission is $7. Teenagers, CCU and HGTC alumni, OLLI members, groups and senior citizens receive a 20 percent discount. CCU and HGTC faculty and staff are $5, and students can purchase tickets for $3 with a student ID.
