CCU jazz groups present showcase performance

Three CCU student jazz ensembles come together in one evening to present the CCU Jazz Showcase on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. General admission tickets are $7, and discounts are available.

Performing groups include the CCU Jazz Ensemble, directed by Matthew White, assistant professor of music; the New Jazz Ensemble, directed by Chris Connolly, lecturer of music; and the CCU Jazz Combo, directed by Tim Fischer, assistant professor of music. Fischer will also make a special guest appearance as soloist on jazz guitar.

The program will include genres ranging from classic big band repertoire to bebop, hip-hop and contemporary R&B with various instrumentations and vocalists.

The CCU Jazz Ensemble includes Cynthea Kelley on vocals; Ryan Mason (lead alto), Crystol King, Bobo Ferguson, Stephen Sartin and Chris Colon on saxophone; Nick Lewis (split lead), Clinton "Duece" Patton and Brayden Williams on trombone; JT Abrams on bass trombone; Tim Lewis (lead), Mike Elliott, Becky Krivanek and Nicholas Feaser on trumpet; Connor Mills on piano; Tyler Hughes on bass guitar; Micah Ray and Tyrice Murray on drums and Cameron Rider on guitar. The CCU New Jazz Ensemble includes Carmen Williams on vocals; Kevin Josiger (lead), Maurice Moultrie and Joe Kleman on trumpet; Riley Rabon and Collin Simmons on saxophone; Travis Hamilton on drums and Grant King and Willie Newman on guitar. The CCU Jazz Combo includes Cynthea Kelley on vocals, Cameron Rider on guitar, Connor Mills on piano, Tyler Hughes on bass guitar and Michah Ray on drums.

"It will be an eclectic program," said White. "It's a highlights concert, so you'll hear the best of the best from each group."

Senior citizens, OLLI members, CCU alumni, teenagers and children and CCU/HGTC faculty and staff may purchase tickets for $5, and CCU/HGTC students and may purchase them for $3.
