CCU Percussion Ensemble to perform high-energy concert

October 28, 2016

The Coastal Carolina University Percussion Ensemble will perform a concert on Monday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. General admission is $7, and tickets can be purchased from the Wheelwright Auditorium box office.

The CCU Percussion Ensemble will perform a challenging and varied program that includes influences from all over the world. "Mudra" by Bob Becker featuring CCU student soloist Tyrice Murray is a pieced based on the rhythms and form of Indian classical music. "Hemispheres" by Kevin Bobo is a contemporary piece for percussion ensemble that was inspired by indigenous music from all over the world. "Omphalo Centric Lecture" is a minimalistic mallet quartet by Australian composer Nigel Westlake. The ensemble will finish the program with a raucous, uptempo closer entitled "The Rapids," which evokes images of an intense whitewater rafting excursion.

The ensemble is directed by Jesse Willis, associate professor of music, who is director of percussion studies at CCU.

Senior citizens, OLLI members, CCU alumni, teenagers, children and CCU/HGTC faculty and staff may purchase tickets for $5, and CCU/HGTC students and may purchase them for $3. Tickets may be purchased at coastal.edu/culturalarts or at the Wheelwright Box Office, located at 108 Spadoni Park Circle on the main Conway campus.
