Broadway stars to perform musical revue at CCU

An iconic musical theater duo will perform at Coastal Carolina University in "Legends of Broadway with Ron Raines and Donald Pippin" on Sunday, Jan. 29, at 4 p.m. in the Edwards Recital Hall at CCU. Tickets are $17, with discounts available.

Raines, a 2002 Tony Award nominee for the acclaimed production of Stephen Sondheim's "Follies" and star of Broadway productions "Chicago" and "Show Boat," recently appeared as Daddy Warbucks in the Broadway revival of "Annie." Raines may be best known for his Emmy Award-winning role as Alan Spaulding on the longest-running CBS daytime drama, "Guiding Light." He has also performed as a soloist with symphony orchestras across the country.

Pippin's career as a conductor, music director, arranger and songwriter spans more than 50 years of work in television, stage and musical recording. His musical direction earned him a Tony Award for "Oliver!" and a Drama Desk Special Award for musical direction and commitment to theater. He worked as conductor, musical director and vocal arranger for more than two dozen Broadway shows and served as musical director at Radio City Music Hall in New York City for more than a decade.

Featured numbers for the performance include "Luck Be a Lady" from the musical "Guys and Dolls," "September Song" from "Knickerbocker Holiday," the Gershwin brothers' "Embraceable You" performed in the musical "Girl Crazy," Cole Porter's "So in Love" from "Kiss Me Kate" and "I Won't Send Roses" from the musical "Mack & Mabel."

Raines and Pippin have performed their Broadway revue at venues across the country, including the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

Teenagers, CCU and HGTC alumni, OLLI members, groups and senior citizens are $12. CCU and HGTC students can purchase tickets for $5 with a student ID.

The Edwards Recital Hall is located in Room 152 in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at 133 Chanticleer Drive W. on the Conway campus.
