"La Rafle," a 2010 French film set during World War II, will be screened at Coastal Carolina University on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 5 p.m. in The Coastal Theater of the Lib Jackson Student Union, Room A-110. The event, part of the War & Society Film Series, is free and open to the public.

The film, starring Melanie Laurent and Jean Reno, is set in Paris in 1942 and based on a true story. The film follows a young Jewish boy during the Vel' d'Hiv Roundup, which was the mass arrest of Jews by the French police in July 1942. The film depicts the struggles of that period from the point of view of multiple children.

Following the viewing, CCU Professor of History Philip Whalen will lead a discussion to provide historical context for the film. The film is 2 hours, 5 minutes long.

The War & Society Film Series is sponsored by CCU's Department of History. The final film in the series, "The Counterfeiters," will be shown on Feb. 28. The Lib Jackson Student Union is located at 100 Spadoni Park Circle on the main Conway campus.
