Olympic athlete and Coastal Carolina University alumna Amber Campbell will give a public talk on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 6 p.m. in the Edwards Recital Hall at CCU as part of the Making Black History series hosted by CCU's Office of Multicultural Student Services. The event is free and open to the public.

Campbell graduated from CCU with a bachelor's degree in psychology in 2004. She is a three-time Olympian, having competed in the hammer throw competition in Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016. She placed 21st, 12th and 6th at these games, respectively. In college, Campbell was named a five-time All-American, two-time Big South Athlete of the Year, three-time Big South Women's Track Athlete of the Year, and a 16-time Big South Champion in four track and field events. Campbell won the Outstanding Alumni of the Year award for the College of Science in 2012. CCU's Office of Alumni Relations also named her a Top Tier Chanticleer in 2016.

The Making Black History series is a collection of three different speakers throughout February. February is Black History Month, and the goal of the series is to highlight people who have made recent impacts on African American history. Other participants in the series are inspirational speaker Tevin Lucas and musician David Manigo.
