Motivational speaker set to talk for Black History series

February 10, 2017
Tevin Lucas

Motivational speaker Tevin Lucas will give a talk on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 6 p.m. in the Edwards Recital Hall at Coastal Carolina University as the final session of the Making Black History Series. The event, part of the Multicultural and Inclusion program at CCU, is free and open to the public.

Lucas, originally from Puyallup, Wash., is a 20-year-old inspirational speaker who has faced hardships from personal injury to family sicknesses and deaths. As a redshirt freshman on the football team at Augustana University in South Dakota, Lucas battled several injuries that kept him off the field. He decided to transfer to the University of San Diego to pursue other football opportunities, but during his first day on the field, Lucas suffered a career-ending knee injury, nearly losing his leg. He had to face a future that didn't involve football, and he learned quickly how to adjust to the hurdles that followed which included losing motion in his foot and needing a prosthetic to walk.

After the injury and the grueling recovery, Lucas decided not to attend the University of San Diego and enrolled in classes at Colorado Christian University. He is currently taking classes online and has a double major in communication and Biblical studies at Colorado Christian University.

CCU's Office of Multicultural Student Services hosts the Multicultural and Inclusion program. The Edwards Recital Hall is in Room 152 of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts building, located at 133 Chanticleer Drive W. on the main Conway campus.
