The Women's and Gender Studies program at Coastal Carolina University has compiled a calendar of campus events to observe Women's History Month. The events range from films to lectures to discussions, are free and open to the public, and take place on the CCU campus throughout March.

Highlights include:

- International Women's Day: Friday, March 3, at 10:30 a.m. on Prince Lawn, featuring giveaways, information and displays.

- "Women in Music: a Celebration of Women's History Month": Tuesday, March 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Edwards Recital Hall, featuring CCU student and faculty performers.

- "Local Women's Issues": Wednesday, March 15, at 4 p.m. in Johnson Auditorium. A panel of representatives from local social organizations and student groups will discuss issues facing women in this community.

- "The State of Women in South Carolina": Wednesday, March 22, in Johnson Auditorium at 4 p.m. Representatives from the Center for Women in Charleston will present key findings of their report regarding women's leadership, health and safety, economic security, and education in South Carolina.

- "Female Spycraft: Women in the Central Intelligence Agency": Wednesday, March 29, in the Coastal Science Center, Room 300, at 7 p.m. The student group Women in National Security (WINS) will discuss opportunities in the areas of intelligence and national security.

- Keynote address: Wednesday, March 29, at 4:30 p.m. in the Lib Jackson Student Union, Room A201, by Patricia Williams Lessane, executive director of the Avery Research Center for African-American History and Culture at the College of Charleston.

"Women's History Month is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the contributions that women have made to U.S. society and our Coastal community more specifically," said Ina Seethaler, CCU assistant professor and director of Women's and Gender Studies. "The goal is to spotlight women and their achievements so that they may serve as role models for a new generation of strong women. We hope that everyone at CCU will find an event of interest and will help us recognize women's talents and social justice efforts, which often go unrecognized."
