Sandy Miles Golf Tournament to support Coastal programs

June 3, 2002

A silent auction and dinner held in conjunction with the Sandy Miles Endowment Fund Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, June 22 at 7 p.m. at Pine Lakes International Country Club in Myrtle Beach. Cost for the evening activities, which are open to the public, is $25 per person.

Proceeds from the event, hosted by the Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course Owners Association (MBAGCOA), will benefit Coastal's men's and women's varsity golf programs and help establish the first fully-funded scholarship for the university's Professional Golf Management (PGM) program.

Coastal's PGM program, administered through the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration, was initiated in fall 1997 in response to the Grand Strand's bustling golf industry, which has more than 125 courses situated within 50 miles of the university. Coastal's program, one of 13 in the nation accredited by the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA), is the only one with an international component. More than 20 students from the Autonomous University in Barcelona, Spain, are enrolled in the program.

Among the items up for bid are several golf excursions to world famous locations such as Pebble Beach, Merion, Bay Hill, Oakmont and TPC Sawgrass - with round-trip airfare included on all trips.

Miles was a founder of the MBAGCOA and a visionary in marketing the Myrtle Beach area as one of the leading golf destinations in the world.
