2017 Student involvement, leadership awards announced

Faculty and students gathered for Coastal Carolina University's Student Involvement and Leadership Awards (SILA) ceremony on April 19 in Wheelwright Auditorium. The Ronald D. Lackey Service Award was awarded to Kelsie Miller, a senior psychology major from Conway and a SHORE counseling outreach coordinator.

During this year's installment, outstanding students, faculty and staff, as well as groups, were recognized and received a plaque, certificate or a coveted Chanticleer rooster trophy.

The 2016-2017 winners are as follows:

- Adviser of the Year - Monica Fine

- Rising Leader of the Year - Morgan Howder

- Outstanding Community Service by an Individual - Victoria Green

- Unsung Hero Award - Heather Williams

- Student Organization President of the Year - Bethany Bebik

- Fraternity and Sorority Life Greek Man - Dylan Masiello

- Fraternity and Sorority Life Greek Woman - Francesca Caravella

- Student Organization of the Year - NAACP

- Outstanding Community Service by a Student Organization (non-Greek) - Rotaract Club

- Fraternity and Sorority Life Outstanding Community Service - Sigma Sigma Sigma

- Most Improved Student Organization - Women of Color

- Fraternity and Sorority Life Outstanding Philanthropy - Pi Kappa Phi

- Outstanding Philanthropy by a Student Organization (non-Greek) - Colleges Against Cancer

- Bell Tower Award - NAACP's "The Essence of the Struggle"

- Educational Program of the Year - Peer SHORE Educators "Out of the Darkness Walk"

- Outstanding Collaboration - Sigma Sigma Sigma, National Society of Leadership and Success, and Lambda Chi Alpha "Supplies to Soldiers"

- New Initiative of the Year - Sigma Sigma Sigma

- Fraternity and Sorority Life Chapter of the Year - Alpha Phi Alpha

- Fraternity and Sorority Life Chapter President of the Year - Lacey McGuire
