CCUs Campus Salvage sale raises $4,600 for scholarship

May 16, 2017

Campus Salvage, Coastal Carolina University's annual collection and donation program designed to recycle unwanted items that students leave behind and donate at year's end, raised $4,601 which will help pay for the program and help fund a scholarship for sustainability.

"This program continues to shine due to the generosity of CCU students who make so many donations," said Jeremy Monday, CCU's sustainability coordinator. "We are so thankful for our partnership with University Housing and the wonderful job they do with marketing the program to the students."

Campus Salvage had 26 PODS full of items at the sale, which was May 13 in the PODS company parking lot across from CCU. Most items were priced at $1, with the exception of mini refrigerators, small appliances, and furniture. Collection for the unwanted items ran from April 29 to May 8, when students moved out of the residence halls. Several PODS were placed in six locations throughout campus as drop-off points for donations.

In addition to raising money for a new sustainability scholarship, the collection efforts also resulted in donations to 15 different local organizations ranging from Fostering Hope and Sea Haven for Youth to the Helping Hand and Churches Assisting People. According to Jeremy Monday, CCU's sustainability coordinator, the program not only keeps unwanted items out of the county's landfills, but it also supports the local community with donations.
