Sample lifelong learning courses at free open houses

Explore the courses, clubs and excursions planned for the fall term of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), Coastal Carolina University's premier noncredit program for enrichment opportunities, at the open house, Taste of OLLI, from Wednesday, Sept. 6, through Tuesday, Sept. 12, at four locations.

Instructors, staff, and community partners will be available at each of the University's four outreach centers:

- Coastal Science Center, 301 Allied Drive, Conway, Wednesday, Sept. 6, 9 a.m. to noon

- Myrtle Beach Education Center, 900 79th Ave. N, on Friday, Sept. 8, 9 a.m. to noon

- Litchfield Education Center, 14427 Ocean Highway, Tuesday, Sept. 12, 9 a.m. to noon

- Georgetown Education Center, 909 Front St., Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2 to 4 p.m.

During Taste of OLLI, prospective students can sample the lifelong learning program for free, exploring more than 400 noncredit classes, workshops, special interest clubs and travel opportunities offered between Sept. 18 and the end of December. Topics include art and photography, computer technology, foreign languages, history and government, literature and writing, music, theater and film, personal growth and skill development, philosophy and religion, science and nature, and Lowcountry history, culture and nature excursions. The OLLI membership fee ($30 per semester) includes discounts and special programs at CCU and at area museums (Brookgreen Gardens, Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum, Hobcaw Barony, Horry County Museum, North Myrtle Beach Area Historical Museum, Kaminski House Museum and S.C. Maritime Museum), musical and theatrical companies (Long Bay Symphony, Atlantic Stage and Theatre of the Republic), health and wellness centers (Fit4Everyone, Fitness Edge, Tidelands Health and YMCA), and local restaurants and bookstores (Ducatis Trattoria, Second Cup Coffee Company and Deli and Waterfront Books).
