‘Good Bye Lenin!’ kicks off free language film series at CCU

"Good Bye Lenin!" will be the first film screened as part of the Foreign Language Blockbusters series hosted by the Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies at Coastal Carolina University. It will be shown in the Coastal Theater on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 5 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

"Good Bye Lenin!" stars Daniel Brühl and tells the story of a mother and son in East Germany in 1989 during a time of political tension. After seeing her son arrested during a political protest on destroying the Berlin Wall and fighting communism, the mother falls into a coma. Eight months later, she wakes up, unaware of the reunification that has happened. To keep her safe from the shock of this new world, her son creates a plan to keep her sheltered from it.

Following the screening, several faculty/staff members from the Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies will lead a discussion on the themes and topic present in "Good Bye Lenin!" The film is rated R and contains content that may be inappropriate for children. Parental discretion is advised. It is directed by Wolfgang Becker and has a running time of about two hours.

The Coastal Theater is located in Room A-110 of the Lib Jackson Student Union, 106 Spadoni Park Circle on CCU's main Conway campus.
