Daniel W.
R. (Dan) Moore Sr. has been elected by the South
Carolina General Assembly to serve as a member of Coastal Carolina
University's Board of Trustees.
Moore is owner of Dan Moore Real Estate in North Myrtle Beach,
S.C. He was a member of the Horry County Higher Education Commission
from 1994 until his appointment to Coastal's Board of Trustees last
month and was on the Coastal Foundation Advisory Board from 1992 to
1995. Since 1977, Moore has been a member of the Grand Strand Board of
Realtors, serving as director from 1988 to 1992.
His professional background includes working with South Carolina's
Oconee County Public Schools from 1972 to 1977, teaching freshman
psychology at Coastal from 1977 to 1978, and serving on the North
Myrtle Beach City Planning and Zoning Commission from 1980 to 1988.
Moore has been associated with many other boards and committees in
the area, including the Carolina First Bank Advisory Board, Grand
Strand Family YMCA, Horry County School District, and North Myrtle
Beach School Improvement Council. Moore was also appointed by the City
of North Myrtle Beach to serve as damage assessment evaluator
immediately following Hurricane Hugo in 1989.
Moore, who attended Horry County public schools, earned his
bachelor's degree in psychology in 1972 and his master's degree in
educational administration and supervision in 1975 from Clemson
University.
Coastal's Board of Trustees has 17 members. Fifteen are elected
by the General Assembly (two from each Congressional District and three
from the state at large), one is appointed by the Governor, and one member is
the Governor's designee.
