Board of Trustees approves 2000-2001

The Coastal Carolina University Board of Trustees has approved a projected $52.4 million total budget, including a $32.2 million operational budget, for the 2000-2001 fiscal year during its quarterly meeting.

As part of the budget plan, the board approved a tuition increase, effective for fall 2000. In-state tuition will increase $80 per semester, from $1,670 to $1,750, a rise of 4.79 percent. Out-of-state tuition will increase $265 per semester, from $4,640 to $4,905, a rise of 5.71 percent.

The board has also approved an increase in room, board and health service fees. The fee will increase $135 per semester, from $2,485 to $2,620. This includes a $50 Internet access fee formerly charged to students separately.

In other action:

- The board approved tenure status to Lynn Franken, incoming dean, School of Humanities and Fine Arts.

- The board approved emeritus status for the following retiring faculty members:

Thomas A. Cooke, emeritus professor of education; Thomas M. O'Loughlin, distinguished professor emeritus of mathematics and statistics; and Subhash C. Saxena, distinguished professor emeritus of mathematics and statistics.

- The board approved the following faculty promotions, effective Aug. 16:

Treelee Mac Ann, to professor of art; Paul Olsen, to professor of art; Linda Schwartz, to associate professor of English; Sallie Clarkson, to associate librarian; Alan Case, to associate professor of recreation and leisure services management with tenure; Craig Gilman, to associate professor of marine science with tenure; Elizabeth Keller, to associate professor of art with tenure; Gregory Krippel, to associate professor of accounting, finance and economics with tenure; Raymond Moye, to associate professor of English with tenure; Philip Powell, to associate professor of music with tenure; Philip Schneider, to associate professor of philosophy and religion with tenure; Rebecca Snyder, to associate professor of mathematics education with tenure; and Robert Young, to associate professor of marine science with tenure.

The next meeting of the board will be held Friday, June 23, 2000 at 9 a.m. in the Wall School of Business Board Room.
