Magic and fantasy will soon come alive at Coastal Carolina University in the form of horned, bearded, winged, flying creatures that interact with stage performers in an evening of family fun and adventure. Dragons and Mythical Beasts brings its national tour to CCU’s Wheelwright Auditorium on Friday, March 17, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25, with CCU discounts available.

Dragons and Mythical Beasts was nominated for the 2022 Olivier Award for “Best Family Entertainment.” Creatures in the show hail from international folklore, culture, and mythology, including a stone troll; the Russian Indrik; Japanese Baku; the Tooth Fairy; a unicorn; and a griffin. Some of the beasts lumber across the stage, heavy with scales, manes, and beaks, while others are small enough to evade and escape notice as they flit around the stage.

Dragons and Mythical Beasts engages audience members with calls from the stage for directions and guidance, as the narrator invites the beasts forward and explores their powers.
