The Coastal Carolina University Bachelor of Science in public health program has earned re-accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), an independent agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for public health program accreditation. The CEPH board of councilors recently awarded CCU a maximum seven-year accreditation.

The Bachelor of Science in public health program is a part of CCU’s Conway Medical Center College of Health and Human Performance (CMCCHHP). It is one of more than two dozen across the U.S. to meet the highest education standards set forth by CEPH for standalone public health baccalaureate programs.

“We are very excited that our Bachelor of Science in public health program has been recognized by CEPH for the high-quality education that our students are receiving,” said Colleen McGlone, Ph.D., dean the University’s CMCCHHP. “I am extremely proud of the dedicated faculty, staff, alumni, and students who have and continue to make the public health program at CCU one that is nationally recognized.”

Re-accreditation follows an in-depth, two-year application process and self-study centered on meeting national standards that challenge the rigor and quality of public health programs. The comprehensive review analyzed areas of leadership and management, resources, curriculum, program effectiveness, research engagement, student advising, and program diversity.

A February 2023 site visit complimented the evaluation process and allowed CEPH representatives to meet with CCU program stakeholders, faculty, and students.

“The CEPH accreditation is a rigorous process and ensures that not only does the program meet the high-quality educational standards, but also the students meet competency-based standards that prepare them for the workforce,” said McGlone.

The CCU Bachelor of Science in public health program received initial standalone baccalaureate program accreditation from CEPH in 2018.
