Coastal Carolina University’s Department of Theatre presents Cinderella
Performances will be held in CCU’s Wheelwright Auditorium on Friday, Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. (American Sign Language interpreted) and 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 15, at 2 p.m.; Thursday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m. Admission is $25, with CCU discounts available.
Monica Bell, associate professor in the Department of Theatre, directs the production, which includes a cast of more than 30 CCU students.
“The story of Cinderella has long been a part of the American culture,” said Bell. “Many of us have childhood memories of the Disney classic that introduced us to the story of the girl with the glass slipper and dreams of love. Our [CCU’s production based on Beane’s adaptation] Cinderella finds not only love but a purpose to make change in the world and an understanding that she can be a source for that change. The Department of Theatre made the choice to produce a newer adaptation of the classic tale, one that was first produced on the Broadway stage in 2013. This newer version allows for a richer story of Cinderella’s journey and also provides a truer-to-life prince on his own path of self-discovery.”
