Coastal Carolina University presents pianist Amanda Harberg in concert on March 15
The evening will include solo pieces for piano, duets for flute and piano, instrumental ensembles, and vocal performances. Harberg will present the world premiere of “Oh, Snap!,” a duet with clarinetist Eric Schultz, assistant professor in the Department of Music and director of the Edwards Center CIE. The work was commissioned by the CIE for this occasion.
Harberg is an award-winning composer, pianist, and educator whose writing for a wide range of instruments weaves classical Western tradition with contemporary influences to create a distinctly personal style. She has performed with principals of major orchestras including Erica Peel of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Martin Chalifour of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and YaoGuang Zhai of the Baltimore Symphony. Harberg has been commissioned by the Philadelphia Orchestra Association, The Julliard School, and the New World Symphony, among others. She teaches music composition at Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts and Interlochen Arts Camp.
CCU’s Department of Music has purchased Harberg’s composition library for its collection, making Harberg’s work permanently available, free of charge, to all music students.
