3 new members selected for CCU's Board of Trustees

Joe L. Carter, Samuel H. Frink and Dr. Samuel J. Swad have been selected to serve as members of Coastal Carolina University's Board of Trustees.

Carter, of Myrtle Beach, is a gubernatorial appointee replacing George L. Williams Sr.; Frink, a gubernatorial designee, replaces Hal B. Holmes Jr.; Swad, of Gaffney, replaces Juli S. Powers of the Fifth Congressional District.

Carter is a partner in Keystone Commercial Realty, LLC. He is vice president of the Historic Ricefields Association, chairman of the Winyah Bay Focus Area Task Force and serves on the Blue Ribbon Mitigation Panel. He led the effort to establish the Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge and received the Sierra Club Award in 1997.

Frink is the retired president and partner of Conway Ford, Inc. and Grand Strand Nissan. He has served on the Coastal Educational Foundation and the Board of Visitors of the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration at Coastal.

Swad is a family physician practicing in Gaffney. He graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and received a bachelor's degree from Coastal Carolina University.

Coastal's Board of Trustees has 17 members: 15 are elected by the General Assembly (two from each Congressional District and three from the state at large), and two are appointed by the Governor.

Other members of Coastal's Board of Trustees are Payne H. Barnette Jr. of Greenwood, Robert D. Brown of Camden, Fred F. DuBard Jr. of Florence, Cathy B. Harvin of Summerton, Charles J. Hodge of Spartanburg, Dean P. Hudson of Conway, James F. Kane of Columbia, William L. Lyles Jr. (vice chairman) of Anderson, Daniel W. R. Moore Sr. of North Myrtle Beach, Clark B. Parker (chairman) of Myrtle Beach, Robert L. Rabon of Conway, Keith S. Smith of Greer, Oran P. Smith of Leesville and Eugene C. Spivey of Myrtle Beach. Gene Anderson of Myrtle Beach, James J. Johnson of Conway and Juli S. Powers are trustee emeriti. Gov. Mark Sanford is ex-officio chairman.
