Philip Powell's Piano Memorial Concert for Michel Block

Free, but donations accepted for scholarship fund
A tribute to the late international pianist Michel Block, this concert will explore the sonata form in works by Scarlatti, Haydn, Beethoven, Chopin, Ravel and Jan'cek. Performer Philip Powell, professor of music at Coastal, was a student of Block's at Indiana University.
Vocal Master Class with Tom Fox

Artists who visit the university to perform are frequently willing to work directly with students in sessions known as master classes. Observe master performers as they teach CCUstudents techniques to help perfect their craft.
"The Baker's Wife," a musical comedy presented by CCU Theater

Lyrics and music by Stephen Schwartz, based on the film "La Femme de Boulanger" by Marcel Pagnol and Jean Gion.
This wry musical comedy deals with jealousy, lust, revenge and...pastries. When the new baker arrives in a rural French village, all is well until his beautiful young wife runs off with the local handyman, driving the baker to distraction and the villagers to breadlessness.
Columbia City Ballet presents "Dracula"

"Heroes and Villains"

This tour-de-force program highlights heroes and villains of the musical world in what is certain to be one of the most riveting recitals of the season. Baritone Tom Fox has sung in many of the world's leading opera houses. Among his most recent engagements are performances in "Tristan und Isolde" in Strasbourg and Buenos Aires; "Salome" in Buenos Aires; and "Parsifal" in Munich. Upcoming are "Elektra" in Baltimore, a "The Makropulos Case" at the Met, and "Tosca" for Los Angeles Opera.

Join us for a magical evening in the Courtyard of the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. A selection of brief excerpts from a variety of Coastal productions will be presented, including the percussive improvisations of "Stomp"; the new Broadway musical "Songs for a New World"; "The Baker's Wife," a French farce with a musical twist; and a preview of "Hamlet." Gourmet dining. Gala proceeds will benefit an endowment for cultural programming.

Violin Master Class with Ning Kam

Born in Singapore in 1975, violinist Ning Kam began her musical studies at the age of six. Since then, she has performed internationally, recorded extensively and won many prizes including the concerto competition at the Cleveland Institute of Music, the 1998 Canada Council Grants for the Performing Arts and the Outstanding Young Artist Award at the 1990 Royal Overseas League Competition in the United Kingdom.
Spirit of the Chanticleer CCU Marching Band Concert

Columbia City Ballet presents "The Nutcracker"

This classic Tchaikovsky ballet is about a young girl named Clara whose wooden nutcracker doll comes to life and takes her on a magical journey. For this perennial holiday favorite, Columbia City Ballet artistic director William Starrett has assembled a cast of world-class dancers, including medalists and former members of the National Ballet of Canada, American Ballet Theatre and the Joffrey Ballet. The cast of the production also features young dancers from the community who auditioned for the performance.
