"College Comedian of the Year" nominee coming to Coastal

Elvira Kurt, voted Funniest Female Comic at the Canadian Comedy Awards, will perform her unique show at Coastal Carolina University on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. The show, which s free and open to the public, is in the Wall Auditorium.

Kurt has appeared on two specials on Comedy Central and the animated series, "Reality Chick" on the Oxygen network - she is the voice of the title character, an eight-month pregnant feminist superhero.

Her film and theater credits include "The Vagina Monologues," and she is profiled and showcased in a documentary called "We're Funny That Way" on HBO. Her one-woman show, "Viva, Elvira!" has debuted in Los Angeles and Toronto.

In addition to her comedic success in the United States, Kurt has performed on England's BBC network and at concerts in Australia and New Zealand. She also headlined at the Sydney Mardi Gras OUTrageous Comedy Festival.

Kurt, who has been nominated as both U.S. College Comedian and Entertainer of the Year, is known for her ability to freely discuss any subject. She has earned various awards for her stand-up performances such as the Gold Award at the Worldfest International Film Festival. The performance is sponsored by the Coastal Productions Board of the Office of Student Activities.
