White Ribbon Week at CCU signifies male support against violence

November 25, 2003

Dec. 1 to 5 will be White Ribbon Week at Coastal Carolina University, an opportunity to enlist the support of males in the fight against violence towards women.

"While there is a small majority of male perpetrators of violence against women, the vast majority of our male friends and colleagues are as offended and opposed as we are," says Lynn Willett, vice president for student affairs.

Throughout the week, white ribbons will be distributed, along with information to bring awareness to the issue.

Special events are planned throughout the week including:

- Monday - all day, distribution of white ribbons

- Tuesday - Wear a red T-shirt day, pig pickin' on Prince Lawn from noon to 2 p.m. with proceeds to benefit a local women's shelter

- Wednesday - panel discussion of male campus leaders, "These Men Want to Put a End Toward Violence Against Women," 7 p.m., Wall Auditorium

- Thursday - Dec. 4, Candlelight Memorial for those whose lives have been affected by violence, 5 p.m., Singleton Horseshoe
