HGTC and CCU co-sponsor Summit for Seniors

“Empowering Seniors for Community Engagement,” an all-day Seniors Summit, will examine choices for post-retirement careers, continued learning, volunteering, spiritual development, dealing with grief and more. The workshop, which will be held April 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Conway campus of Horry-Georgetown Technical College, is open to the public.

Registration is $15 per person and includes continental breakfast, a light luncheon buffet, entertainment and all sessions. The conference will be held in the Burroughs & Chapin Community Auditorium. Co-sponsored by HGTC and Coastal Carolina University, the summit will feature a keynote address by Ronald J. Manheimer, executive director of the North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement (NCCCR). He will discuss, “The Second Middle Age: Looking Differently at Life Beyond 50.”

Breakout sessions include a presentation on coping with grief in a more positive way, how to maximize intellectual functioning in senior years, working through fears about aging, where to go for information or assistance, volunteerism, financial and legal issues such as living wills, continuing education, involvement in the political process and more.
