Coastal students present papers at national conference

Six Coastal Carolina University students presented scholarly papers at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) held recently at Indiana University in Indianapolis, Ind.

Students and faculty from more than 200 colleges and universities in the United States participated in the conference, an annual event designed to enrich undergraduate teaching and learning by giving students firsthand experience in the process of scholarly exploration and discovery.

Conference presenters are selected on the basis of abstracts of their research submitted four months in advance of the conference.

The following Coastal students gave presentations:

- Kenneth Ward, a senior computer science major of North Myrtle Beach, presented "The Parallel Virtual File System."

- Matthew Miller, a junior finance major of Huntersville, N.C., presented "The Ethics of Insider Trading."

- Kumar Jeev, a senior computer science major of Jodhpur Rojastham, India, presented "The Influence of Polar Vortex Intensification on Surface Circulation."

- Jacqueline Griggs, a senior health promotions major of Sewell, N.J., presented "As Americans' Waistlines Continue to Increase, So Does Preoccupation with Being Thin Among Young Women."

- Beth Graham, a senior health promotions major of Murrells Inlet, presented "Utilizing Technology Resources in the Classroom to Improve the Health of America's Youth."

- Allison Byrd, a junior marine science major of Fredericksburg, Va., presented "Is Climate Change Altering the Circulation of the North Atlantic Ocean?"
