Canadian-born classical pianist Ray Kilburn will perform a classical recital on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Edwards Recital Hall at Coastal Carolina University. It is free and open to the public.

Kilburn, recognized as being among Canada’s most gifted artists, now holds dual citizenship and resides in the United States. His career has taken him throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, China and Japan. Critics have praised his technical abilities and artistic temperament, especially in his romantic pieces.

A former music instructor at Coastal, Kilburn returns in concert to help the university celebrate its 50th anniversary. Among the pieces the program will feature are a Bach aria from the Sonata No. 3 in A minor, the Benediction de Dieu dans la solitude by F. Liszt, 3 Preludes by Frank Martin, Andante Spianato and Grand Polonaise Brillante, by Chopin, Liszt transcriptions of works by Schubert and Mendelssohn as well as a Rachmaninoff transcription of Liebesleid by Kreisler.

In addition to a busy schedule of solo and chamber music performances, Kilburn has two solo compact discs that have received rave reviews, and a third compact disc in collaboration with his father, cellist Michael Kilburn. After several years as tenured faculty at Peace College in Raleigh, N.C., he now holds an artist-faculty position in piano performance and chamber music at Ball State University.
