HIST 382- Gender and Global Capitalism, (3 Credits), This course focuses on the impact of capitalism on gender relations throughout the world, from the 16th century to the present. This seminar style course may explore the foundational theories of gender and political economy. Students may study how the transition from feudalism to capitalism led to differing concepts of men and women’s work and may engage with the historiography of gender, labor, and the rise of global capitalism. Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

Women's unpaid labor has been a tenet in the rise of global capitalism. This class focuses on how gender roles were assigned in order to strip certain groups of their knowledge and power in order to better serve the interests of capital. This class provides all students with foundational cultural diversity and inclusion information to better serve them in their prospective fields, especially STEM fields dominated by white men.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

This class provides history majors with an elective that focuses on communication, cultural diversity and inclusion.

What financial costs are associated with this request?

There is no cost, other than tuition, for students. Students will need access to moodle, email, and potentially other CCU provided software like Zoom and/or Teams.

If NO change in cost is anticipated, how is this possible?

Due to OER I&II training through CeTeal and constant communications/requests to the library, this class is completely OER and has no financial burden to the students.
