Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

This change is being made because the course is not really a prerequisite for the program. It is a state requirement and can be completed at multiple points in the program. Finally, many students have taken this course or one that the State deems an acceptable substitution. Removal of this course as a prerequisite will eliminate the numerous petitions to have this requirement waived because it has been met through another course.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

It will greatly reduce the academic petitions that have to be processed. It will allow students to register for courses with ease and not require the use of special permission.

What financial costs are associated with this request?

No financial costs associated with this minor change.

If NO change in cost is anticipated, how is this possible?

This change will not impact faculty load, course coverage, etc. It will only remove the course as a prerequisite, thus eliminated the burden of numerous academic petitions to have it waived.

Any additional information

For several years, the program has worked through this issue by having students submit academic petitions to have the requirement waived. The solution presented here was a collaboration between the Office of Graduate Studies and College of Education, in consultation with the Office of the Registrar.
