Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

Per recommendations from the SC Department of Education, the College of Education and Social Sciences is condensing the number of literacy courses offered to meet Read to Succeed requirements. The state recommends that candidates in early childhood, elementary education, and special education complete the same literacy courses when appropriate. Thus, we are switching literacy courses so that all programs have the same assigned assessment course. All three programs already share another beginning literacy course. Additionally, the change to a course focusing on PK-6 assessment is beneficial for the SPED program, which must now address early childhood CEC standards effective this year.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

None - the courses undergoing revision are taught by the same instructors, and will be appropriately subbed out. The new course syllabi were approved by the SC DOE for meeting Read to Succeed Requirements for those in special education; the new program reflects the updated standards.

What financial costs are associated with this request?

N/A

If NO change in cost is anticipated, how is this possible?

Again, the courses are being switched out for ones already offered, and taught by the same instructors.
