About the Waccamaw Collection
The Waccamaw collection consists of more than 1200 published books, magazines, pamphlets, and audio/visual materials documenting Southern history, specifically the Waccamaw Neck region of South Carolina. This collection began in 1980 with the collaboration of Kimbel Library with the Waccamaw Center for Cultural and Historical Studies. Its scope was established with the consultation of interested faculty and undergraduate students of the university.
The collection's strengths are primary sources and monographs of the Revolutionary War, Civil War, and development of Horry County. The oldest materials in the collection date to the eighteenth century. The collection includes early imprints (pre-1900), limited editions (500 copies or less), autographed copies of local authors, and contemporary titles covering the Waccamaw Neck region.
Researchers may browse and search the collection using the search box at the top of the page. Materials in the collection are located in the University Archive and Special Collections department.
