This American Red Cross Lifeguarding course will train the participants in all the skills and techniques necessary to become a professional lifeguard over the course of a weekend. This training course is intended for those who seek a certification for the first time or for those who are renewing their certification. There will be videos, demonstrations, as well as hands on experience. The class covers equipment based rescues, spinal injury management and post – rescue care. Participants will also learn how to interact with the public. 

*The First day of class, all lifeguard candidates will swim 300 yards, tread water for 2 minutes without the use of hands, and complete a 10lb brick retrieval test. These must be successfully completed to remain in the course. 

The class is limited to 12 participants per session. If there is low enrollment in any program we reserve the the right to cancel the course. If this takes place you will be able to transfer into another course or receive a refund. 

To reserve your spot in the class there is $35 non - refundable fee which will be applied to the cost of the class after passing the prerequisites.

This American Red Cross course provides certification in Adult and Child CPR, AED and First Aid You will learn how to correctly use an Automated External Defibrillator to aid in cardiac emergencies. This class is intended for those who seek a certification for the first time or for those who are renewing their certification. There will be videos, demonstrations, as well as hands on experience. You must be on time to participate in this class. This class will be held in HTC studio 2 from 10:00am-2:00pm. Class time may vary based on number of participants. 


Water Safety Instructor Course

Water Safety Instructor LogoThis certification will train instructor candidates to teach water safety, including the Basic Water Rescue and Personal Water Safety courses, six levels of Learn-to-Swim, three levels of Preschool Aquatics and two levels of Parent and Child Aquatics.

Prerequisites: Must be at least 16 years of age on or before the final scheduled session of the course. Must be able to swim at a level 4 ability for the following skills; front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and side stroke for 25 yards, butterfly for 15 yards, maintain position on back for one minute in deep water (floating or sculling), and tread water for one minute.

* Once successfully completing the pre requisite swim, students must complete an online portion of the class prior to class on February 3rd

Lifeguard Instructor

The Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification is meant to train instructor candidates to teach Lifeguard Training including First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard Management, AED Essentials, Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer, Preventing Disease Transmission, Community Water Safety and Basic Water Rescue. The training prepares instructor candidates by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials and methods, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants' progress.


  • Be at least 17 years of age by the last scheduled session of the instructor course
  • Be currently certified as a Lifeguard in good standing with the American Red Cross
  • Pass each section of the pre-course written exam with a score of 80 percent
  • Demonstrate competency in the skills evaluation.


The next offering will be February, 2018. The schedule below represents the 2017 course that is complete.
