About Library Instruction
The library instruction program, geared specifically to the research needs of Coastal students, offers one-credit courses, course-integrated instruction and online materials designed to teach students about accessing, evaluating and using information. The program draws on the wide range of resources available through the library - books, journals, electronic sources and non-print media to promote academic discovery and lifelong learning.
Library Instruction Sessions
Librarians are available to conduct research sessions designed to meet the needs of a specific course assignment and to assist undergraduate and graduate students in locating, evaluating and using information. Class sessions typically range from 50 to 75 minutes, with the lesson adjusted to specific class times.
Faculty are always welcome to bring their classes to the library and give their students a personal tour of the building. The library does not provide class tours of the building. You may also want to see our online library orientation tour.
Interested in bringing in a non-Coastal class for a visit to Kimbel Library? Review the library's procedure for non-Coastal class visits and contact us at 843-349-2414 for further information.
The library provides services for all users, no matter their location. For information on library services for distance education courses, please visit the Distance Learning Services page.
Faculty teaching distance learning classes may contact librarians directly to discuss their needs. Electronic journals, e-books, streaming video, digital collections and many other library resources are also available online to the CCU community. Additional information about resources available for distance learning and contact information is located on our Distance Learning Resources page.
The library staff creates research guides for courses and majors to assist researchers. Research guides introduce resources and tools appropriate for individual assignments, for discipline-specific research and for research support topics such as citation. View the full list of research guides.
Kimbel Library has created several videos and tutorials to help faculty and students use library resources and services. Please visit the Library Videos and Tutorials page to view a full list. Topics include foundational research skills and directions on using specific resources.
Librarians teach one-credit courses designed to improve student skills in finding, evaluating and using information effectively. Look for LIBR courses in WebAdvisor or ask your advisor about the benefits of rounding out your schedule with these courses.
