Other CCU Scholarships

The scholarships listed below are scholarships offered from Coastal Carolina University, but are not awarded through the merit-based scholarship or application-based scholarship processes. Many require an application to be submitted to individual departments on campus; however, please refer to the specific details provided to determine how to apply.

BE2 Scholarship (new freshman students)

The BE2 Scholarship will be given annually to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Be an Horry County Early College High School graduate;
  • Complete an eligible AA or AS program through HGTC; and
  • Present a minimum 2.5 collegiate GPA at the time of enrollment.

The scholarship award will be offered to qualified students for a maximum of four consecutive semesters. Students must be enrolled as full-time, degree-seeking students to receive the award. Awards will be divided equally between the fall and spring semesters*. Actual award shall not exceed the cost of instate tuition less other gift aid**. Upon request, the award may be renewed for up to one more year as long as the recipient maintains a 2.75 cumulative CCU GPA and is enrolled full time. The students selected will be notified after an interview process while attending Early College High School.

* A student may use a semester of their BE2 scholarship terms in summer, subject to available funding.  Requests for summer funding must be sent to scholar@coastal.edu by May 31st.

** Students may request additional funds to cover expenses associated with the cost of attendance (books/supplies, housing, transportation, etc.), subject to available funding.  Requests must be sent to scholar@coastal.edu
 
CCU Palmetto Scholarship 

The CCU Palmetto Scholarship will automatically be given to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Awarded the South Carolina Palmetto Fellows Scholarship.

The CCU Palmetto Scholarship is valued at $2,000 per academic year. The award will be divided equally between the fall and spring semesters. The award will be automatically renewed each year as long as you earn 30 credit hours each academic year, maintain a 3.0 cumulative CCU GPA, and remain eligible for the South Carolina Palmetto Fellows Scholarship.
 
Chanticleer Band Program Award (new or continuing students)

To be eligible for this scholarship, the student must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be admitted and enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at Coastal Carolina University;
  • Must perform an audition with the director of bands;
  • In addition to marching band participation, students must perform in a spring ensemble (spring ensemble assignment will be at the discretion of the director of bands);
  • Students must satisfactorily complete all course requirements as stated in the CCU Marching Band Handbook and spring ensemble syllabus in order to qualify for renewal; and
  • Students may be declared as any major while making satisfactory progress toward their degree.

The amount of the scholarship the first year will be $1,000 ($500 per semester) and is not automatically renewed. Renewal is at the discretion of the director of bands and is based on instrumentation needs and merit. Students who are selected for renewal in their second year will receive $1,250 for the year and students selected for third and/or fourth year awards will receive $1,500 annually. The director of bands will submit a list of the recipients to the University Scholarship Committee for final approval. Rudolph Canzater Scholarship CCU Match (new freshman students)

Recipients of the Rudolph Canzater Scholarship who enroll full time at CCU will receive a $2,000 match for the first year of enrollment. Application for the Rudolph Canzater Scholarship is made available each year to students who live in the Sixth Congressional District of South Carolina by the James E. Clyburn Scholarship & Research Foundation.  See here for additional information.

The James E. Clyburn Scholarship & Research Foundation will provide the CCU Financial Aid & Scholarships Office a list of recipients attending CCU. CCU Match funds will be added to the recipients account upon receipt of the Rudolph Canzater Scholarship funds. *Scholarship funds may not be received by payment deadlines.

CCUFoodCrew Cares Scholarship

CCUFoodCrew awards up to ten (10) scholarships to CCUFoodCrew student workers in the amount of $1,500 (per year). Application available through the CCUFoodCrew.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits) at Coastal Carolina University for the upcoming academic year.
  • Be an employee at any CCUFoodCrew restaurant, retail, catering or concession's location (including CINO Grille, Chick-fil-A, Freshens, Hicks Dining Hall, Chauncey's Choice, UP Dining Hall, Einstein's Brothers Bagels, Hackler Grill, Pie By Night I & II, Commissary, Starbucks, Convenience Stores, Internship or Peer 2 Peer) at the time of application and on date in which award is announced.
  • Be a CCUFoodCrew Team Member and in good standing at the time award is presented.
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent).
  • Demonstrate financial need. *FAFSA must be completed by the scholarship application deadline to determine financial need.

Additional Requirements: Applicants are asked to demonstrate:

  1. Academic goals in their educational endeavors.
  2. Goals for the future.
  3. Distinguishing qualifications for the award.
  4. Previous leadership, mentorship, organizational and/or working experiences and achievements.
  5. Show active involvement in community service in the twelve (12) months prior to application.

The scholarship must be used at Coastal Carolina University. Renewal of this award is not automatic; however, students are encouraged to reapply. For questions or additional information, see your local CCUFoodCrew Manager or contact Aramark Human Resources at coastaldininghr@aramark.com

Congaree Foundation Scholarship

Beginning with the 2022-2023 academic year, the Congaree Foundation Scholarship will be awarded each year to one (1) individual who has applied and been accepted as an undergraduate student at Coastal Carolina University for the upcoming fall term.  The Congaree Foundation will review the program’s participants and notify CCU by April 1st with a list of recommended students for the scholarship.  Using this list, CCU will select the final scholarship recipient each year.  The scholarship will cover the remaining balance on the student’s account for tuition and academic fees (not to include housing, meal plan, or other non-academic fees).  Should all other gift aid (grants and scholarships) cover tuition & fees, the student may not receive funding from the scholarship.  The student must meet the following criteria:

  • Be entering CCU as a full-time first-year student PGA Golf Management (PGM) program
  • Participated in and put forth by the Congaree Foundation
  • Be a SC resident

This award may be received for a maximum of eight (8) consecutive terms as long as the award recipient continues to remain full-time in the PGM Program and maintains a 2.75 cumulative GPA.  The scholarship will continue to cover the remaining balance on the student’s account for tuition and academic fees (not to include housing, meal plan, or other non-academic fees).  Should all other gift aid (grants and scholarships) cover tuition & fees, the student may not receive funding from the scholarship in a particular year.

Icelandic Whales Alumni Scholarship (transfer students from Commercial College of Iceland or other Menntaskólinn in Iceland)

This Icelandic Whales Alumni Scholarship is a $500 scholarship that carries an out-of-state waiver for up to five (5) scholarships per year. To be eligible, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be admitted as a transfer student from the Commercial College of Iceland or other Menntaskóli and must provide evidence of passing the Studentspróf.
  • Have transferred into or earned at least 30 credit hours at the University.
  • Provide a written recommendation from the President of the Icelandic Whales Alumni Association.
  • Agree to take an active role in University campus life by explaining his or her plans for such involvement in University organizations and clubs and by demonstrating active involvement in school and community-based organizations in Iceland.

The scholarship award will be offered for a maximum of six (6) semesters. Students must be enrolled as full-time, degree-seeking students to receive the award. Awards will be divided equally between the fall and spring semesters. The award may be renewed for up to two (2) years providing the recipient earns a 3.0 cumulative CCU GPA, completes 30 credits annually, meets satisfactory degree progress, and demonstrates an active role in University campus life through meaningful engagement in University organizations and clubs.
 
Honors Excellence Award (CCU junior)

The Honors Excellence Award is a $500 award given annually to students meeting the following criteria:

  •  Must be a junior in the Honors Program; and
  •  Must be ranked in the top five (5) of the junior class according to GPA and cumulative honor credits.

The scholarship will be offered as a one-time award and will be calculated at the end of the fall term. Awards will be divided equally between the fall and spring semesters. The recipients will be chosen by the Honors Department.
 
Ronald D. Lackey Service Award (CCU senior)

The Ronald D. Lackey Service Award is a $1,000 award presented to a CCU senior in good standing who meets the following criteria:

  • Must be in good academic standing;
  • Must distinguish themselves in conspicuous service to the campus;
  • Must be involved significantly in campus organizations, groups or activities;
  • Must have played a leadership role in one or more campus organization or service; and
  • Must have contributed significantly to the quality of campus life.

The scholarship will be offered one time and will be presented at the Student Involvement and Leadership Awards Ceremony. The student will be selected by the Ronald D. Lackey Service Awarded selection committee through the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs.

Leonard Service Scholars Program

The Leonard Service Scholars program has been established to recognize students who dedicate their time, talents, and efforts to community service.  Students who both complete a minimum of 30 hours of unpaid service to the community in a semester and submit a reflection about their service experience(s) will earn a place on the Service Honor Roll and be recognized on the Leonard Service Scholars program website. A selection committee will award $1,000 scholarships to 12 students (4 from each class). All submissions will be reviewed by the selection committee and scholarship recipients will be awarded at the awards banquet in April.

Margaret Millus Prize Award (continuing students)

The Margaret Millus Prize is a $250 award presented to the outstanding voice student, as determined by the faculty in the Department of Music in consultation with the dean of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts. The recipient will be chosen and awarded during the spring semester.

Palmetto Boys’ State Scholarship (new freshman students)

The Palmetto Boys’ State Scholarship is valued at $1,000. This renewable award is extended annually to two incoming male freshman students. To be eligible for consideration of this scholarship, admitted freshman students must meet the following criteria: 

  • Must apply and be accepted as an undergraduate student at Coastal Carolina University for the upcoming fall term,
  • Must be entering as a full-time freshman,
  • Must be a graduate of Palmetto Boys’ State, and 
  • Must be a South Carolina resident.  

Two Palmetto Boys' State Scholarships will be awarded each year. Eligible freshmen will be automatically considered based on overall academic competitiveness, including cumulative grade point average and SAT or ACT scores. Recipients must remain enrolled full-time each semester and meet annual renewal criteria to be eligible for renewal. This award may be received for a maximum of eight terms. To be considered, students must have a completed application by February 1.   

Palmetto Girls’ State Scholarship (new freshman students)

The Palmetto Girls’ State Scholarship is valued at $1,000. This renewable award is extended annually to two incoming female freshman students. To be eligible for consideration of this scholarship, admitted freshman students must meet the following criteria: 

  • Must apply and be accepted as an undergraduate student at Coastal Carolina University for the upcoming fall term,
  • Must be entering as a full-time freshman,
  • Must be a graduate of Palmetto Girls’ State, and 
  • Must be a South Carolina resident.  

Two Palmetto Girls’ State Scholarships will be awarded each year. Eligible freshmen will be automatically considered based on overall academic competitiveness, including cumulative grade point average and SAT or ACT scores. Recipients must remain enrolled full-time each semester and meet annual renewal criteria to be eligible for renewal. This award may be received for a maximum of eight terms. To be considered, students must have a completed application by February 1.   

 
 
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship (new transfer students)

The Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Scholarship is valued at $1,000 (in-state) or $2,500 (out-of-state). This award is extended annually to no more than thirty eligible transfer students. To be eligible for consideration of this scholarship, transfer students must meet the following criteria: 

  • Must be accepted to Coastal Carolina University. Students entering in the fall semester must be accepted by June 1. Students entering in the spring semester must be accepted by Dec. 1;
  • Must be entering as an incoming transfer* student;
  • Must be an active member of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society (as reported on their college transcript);
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative collegiate GPA;
  • Must have a minimum of 30 transferrable hours; and
  • Must be enrolled full-time each semester to be eligible for award. 

*Returning or readmitting, international and Bridge applicants are not eligible for this award.

Preference will be given to transfer students accepted to CCU by May 1 for the fall semester and by Nov. 1 for the spring semester. Eligible transfer students will receive automatic consideration for this award; however, the student is responsible for confirming that their Phi Theta Kappa standing is clearly communicated on their transcript. 

Recipients must remain enrolled full-time each semester and meet annual renewal criteria to be eligible for renewal. This award may be received for a maximum of six terms. 

Presidential Scholarship for ROTC Participants in the SC National Guard (continuing students)

The Presidential Scholarship for ROTC is in the amount of $500 annually for in-state students and $4,000 annually for out-of-state students. First-time recipients will be students meeting all of the following criteria:

  • Completed one (1) semester at CCU as a full-time student participating in ROTC-Chanticleer Company;
  • Earned a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher with 15 credit hours earned;
  • Committed to continual participation in Chanticleer Company;
  • Enlisted in the S.C. National Guard;
  • Remain in “good standing” in both programs as defined by ROTC and S.C. National Guard; and
  • Cannot be currently receiving other ROTC-related student aid.

The recipient must attend Coastal Carolina University as a full-time degree-seeking student, and the scholarship may be awarded for a maximum of seven (7) semesters beginning in the spring semester of the student’s freshman year. The approval of applications and verification of eligibility will be provided by a National Guard Liaison within Chanticleer Company. Financial Aid and Scholarships will then make the official award based upon eligibility in combination with all other student assistance programs for which the student is eligible. Applications are available through CCU’s ROTC Office.

The "Swain Scholars" Program (CCU sophomores)

To be considered for this scholarship program, a student must meet the following criteria:

  • Have two (2) additional years prior to graduation from CCU (approximately 60 credits remaining);
  • Must be a Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Exercise and Sport Science, Psychology, or Public Health major;
  • Have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA.

Additional requirements: Applicants are also required to submit a brief resume, an academic transcript, a letter of recommendation from a faculty member familiar with his/her coursework, and a personal statement describing his/her interest in community health, his/her future plans in the health science/prevention/advocacy area, and why he/she should be chosen as a Swain Scholar. The processing of applications, selection of candidates, finalist interviews and award nominations will be made within the Conway Medical Center College of Health and Human Performance.

Frank A. Thompson II Bridge Scholarship (continuing students)

The Frank A. Thompson II Bridge Scholarship is intended for students who have lost eligibility of a South Carolina State Lottery Scholarship. The award amount varies and recipients will be chosen from students meeting the following criteria:

  • Be an Horry County resident;
  • Be a full-time, continuing student enrolled in the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration;
  • Lost eligibility for the SC Palmetto LIFE or Palmetto Fellows Scholarship;
  • Minimum 2.5 LIFE GPA;
  • Demonstrates financial need through the FAFSA;
  • Submits a personal statement describing what being the recipient of this scholarship would mean to them; and
  • Submits a letter of recommendation from an E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration professor.

An email will be sent to students meeting the criteria at the beginning of the fall semester asking them to submit the additional documentation to receive the award. Awards will be divided equally between the fall and spring semesters.
 
CCU/HGTC Bridge Scholarship (new transfer students)

The CCU/HGTC Bridge Scholarship is valued at $2,000 (in-state) or $4,500 (out-of-state). To be eligible for consideration of this scholarship, transfer students must meet the following criteria:

  • Achieve a minimum 3.0 cumulative collegiate GPA;
  • Earn 21 or more transferrable credits (students invited to transfer mid-year with 12 or more transferrable credits will be considered);
  • Successfully complete the transfer requirements of the CCU/HGTC Bridge Program.

Eligible transferring Bridge students will receive automatic consideration for this award. Recipients must remain enrolled full-time each semester and meet annual renewal criteria to be eligible for renewal. This award may be received for a maximum of six terms.
