The Department of History presents a free screening of "The Messenger" (2009) at 5 p.m. in the Coastal Theater (Lib Jackson Student Union, A-110) as part of the Edwards College Film Series. The film follows U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Will Montgomery, who was in close proximity to an improvised explosive device during a recent deployment to Iraq, in the aftermath of his service. After the screening, Brian Nance, professor in the Department of History, will hold a discussion on the film's historical content.

The Department of Politics presents a free screening of "Qatar: Gulf Crisis One Year On - What's Next for Qatar?" at 5 p.m. in the Coastal Theater (Lib Jackson Student Union, A-110) as part of the Middle East Film Series. This Al Jazeera news special, broadcast in June 2018, covers one year following the full blockade of Qatar by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt, which began in June 2017. It explores how Qatar reinvented itself over the period to overcome the effects of the blockade. Following the screening, Suheir Daoud, professor in the Department of Politics, and Samih Baalbaki, instructor in CCU's OLLI program, will lead a discussion on the film's political context.

Ben Sota, assistant professor in the Department of Theatre, and Milla Blackwelder, sophomore physical theatre major, present "Empathy through Clowning in Costa Rica" at 6 p.m. in the Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery, Edwards 129. Sota and Blackwell will hold a performance and discussion of their Summer 2018 clowning experience with a Patch Adams touring collective in Costa Rica, including their insights, performance techniques and photos from the experience. The event will be held on two consecutive days.

Former CEO of i.d.e.a.l. Magazine and motivational speaker Zarifa Roberson presents "Black and Disabled: Expect the Unexpected" at 6 p.m. in the Coastal Theater (Lib Jackson Student Union, A-110). This discussion focuses on the intersect of being black and having a disability in an effort to eliminate stereotypes and stigmas that surround each group.

LECTURE
CCU's Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values, in collaboration with the Student Veterans Association, presents "Rifles to Ramen: Successfully Navigating the Transition from Military to College Life" at 6 p.m. in Brittain Hall, Room 112, as part of the Tea and Ethics discussion series. A panel of student veterans will discuss their experiences transitioning from soldier to student, focusing on identifying challenges this group faces in making a successful transition and how CCU and local communities can facilitate the process.

THEATER
The Department of Theatre presents "Steel Pier" (1997), with music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. The musical is set in a 1933 Atlantic City ballroom, where a crowd is gathered to compete for a $2,000 prize and a shot at showbiz fame. The production is directed by Adam Pelty, assistant professor and associate chair of the Department of Theatre. Additional performances are Feb. 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, Feb. 24
MUSIC
The Department of Music presents nationally renowned guest artist Joseph Kingma in a piano recital of works in the solo, concerto and chamber genres at 4 p.m. in Edwards Recital Hall. Kingma has performed concertos with orchestras across the nation and has won numerous national and international awards. He joined the faculty of Palm Beach Atlantic University in Fall 2018 as assistant professor of piano and coordinator of the keyboard division.
