Through diversity of course offerings and performance opportunities,
the Department of Music provides a wealth of musical experiences for
students of any major. The central focus of the Department is the synergy
between exploration of the arts and the preparation of students who
seek professional careers in the creation and interpretation of music.
Students develop requisite learner-specific cognitive and psychomotor
skills as well as a focused aesthetic understanding of music that enables
them to enter a career in a music-related field or further their exploration
of the art in a graduate program. Deeply related to that focus is the
Department’s commitment to elevate and sustain a study of music
both as a necessary mode of understanding and a vibrant expression of
the human experience.
