Professor, Student Publish Peter Horry's Journal. Roy Talbert, Jr., and Meggan Farish have published The Journal of Peter Horry, South Carolinian with the University of South Carolina Press. Augmented with a detailed introduction and annotations, the volume brings together all of Horry's extant journal entries, in which the statesman, soldier, and planter vividly portrays his life on North Island and in Columbia, as well as the War of 1812. Talbert holds the Lawrence B. and Jane P. Clark Chair of History. Farish, a graduate of Coastal's History Department, is now a doctoral candidate at Duke University.

Hunley Archaeologist Maria Jacobsen to speak November 13. Maria Jacobsen, Head Archaeologist at the Warren Lasch Conservation Center, will give a lecture entitled "Think Before you Touch! and Other Archaeological Maxims." Jacobsen is responsible for the excavation of the American Civil War submarine H. L. Hunley (1863), planning and managing the interdisciplinary study of the submarine's crew, the archaeological investigations of the hull, and associated artifacts. Part of the Explorations Lecture Series sponsored by the Center for Archaeology and Anthropology, the talk is free and open to the public on Tuesday, November 13 at 5:30 in the Edwards College Recital Hall (EHFA 152).
