Learn, engage and participate in the Lighthouse Project, the culminating event of a semester-long collaboration between CCU's Department of Theatre and Project Lighthouse, a drop-in center for homeless youth in Horry County. The theatrically devised performances, designed to involve the audience in civic dialogue, will take place in the Edwards Theatre Friday, March 22, and Saturday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 24, at 3 p.m.

Through workshops involving students in the Department of Theatre and participants with Project Lighthouse, stories and experiences will light the way toward a re-envisioning of the societal structures that perpetuate homelessness in order to transform our community through civic engagement.

Project Lighthouse provides education, and informational and prevention support for runaway and homeless youth.

Amanda Masterpaul, teaching associate, is director of the production and co-planner of the project along with Gwendolyn Schwinke, associate professor, both of the Department of Theatre.

Admission is free, but donations are requested that will be given to Project Lighthouse. See the attached photo for specific requests.

The Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies presents a free screening of "What to do in Case of Fire" (2001) at 5 p.m. in the Coastal Theater (Lib Jackson Student Union, A-110) as part of the Edwards College Film Series. This film tells the story of six former creative anarchists who live as house squatters in Berlin, separate after a period, and then reunite later in life. After the screening, Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies faculty Simone Boissonneault and Alex Hogue will lead a discussion on the film's cultural context. The film is rated R and will be shown in German with English subtitles.

The Department of Music presents Guitar Studio Recital, a performance showcasing guitar students from the studio of Daniel Hull, CCU lecturer in the Department of Music, at 7:30 p.m. in the Edwards Recital Hall. The concert features solo and ensemble performances of works from the Renaissance period through the 21st century and will include an appearance by the Coastal Carolina Guitar Quartet.

The Department of History presents a free screening of "The Great Journey" (2004) at 2 p.m. at the Conway Education Center. The 2004 film follows Reda, a young French-Moroccan boy, and his father as they travel from the South of France to Mecca for his father to complete his pilgrimage. After the screening, Philip Whalen, professor in the Department of History, will lead a discussion on the film's historical context.

This film features students from both the Department of Theatre and the Edwards College Digital Studio showcasing their work as actors and filmmakers.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute presents "Judaism and the Ethics of Food," a lecture by Alan Todd, CCU lecturer in the Department of Philosophy, with a coffee social at 9:30 a.m. and the presentation at 10 a.m. in the Burroughs & Chapin Center, Room 100. Todd will discuss the history of Jewish dietary laws and their role in shaping Jewish identities as well as the profound ethical standards that have long understood to serve as the foundation of Jewish foodways.

Pianist and CCU alumnus Christopher Wright performs a solo recital at 4 p.m. in the Edwards Recital Hall. The concert will feature the dramatic and volatile Sonata No. 4 by Alexander Scriabin, the sweeping Barcarolle by Frederic Chopin and the transcendent "Le baiser de l'enfant Jesus" from Olivier Messiaen's Vingt Regards sur l'enfant Jesus.
