Bessie's Video

Bessie Wilson says she is a positive person and that is a good thing. Out of the kindness of her heart, she volunteers as mentor for the Life Program, an opportunity for young adults who have mild to moderate intellectual and/or developmental disabilities to attend Coastal and receive a postsecondary education. Bessie’s optimistic attitude impacts these students in a way that enhances their experience at Coastal.

From Suffield, Conn., Bessie traveled the 700 miles to Coastal because she wanted to enroll in the communication program and also enjoy life in a new part of the country. Since the move, she has devised an academic plan that couldn’t prepare her any better for a career in public relations. Studying communication as her major, Bessie is also completing three minors that include marketing, journalism and Spanish, a path that she hopes will land her a PR job one of these days.

Bessie will conclude her junior year on a high note. She is taking a Maymester course that will take her to Spain. Her Spanish minor will serve her well and she is bound to make lifelong memories. When she returns in August for her senior year, we hope she continues to volunteer with the LIFE Program and maintain her positive disposition.
