On behalf of the Orientation staff, welcome to your University. The Coastal Carolina University Orientation program is designed to help students transition to college and assist family members in understanding their students’ experiences during this exciting time. Entering an academic community is an important, and sometimes stressful, time in a person's life – let us help you along the way. All of us are excited to share this experience with you and can't wait to introduce you to the Coastal Carolina University community.

This website contains information about our programs, dates, and registration procedures for upcoming sessions, an introduction to the Orientation Team, and other helpful resources to prepare you for the adventure ahead. All incoming degree-seeking students are required to complete an orientation prior to the start of classes. Click on the term you were admitted for to learn more about how you will complete this requirement.

Which term are you admitted for?

We are delighted you will be attending New Student Orientation at Coastal Carolina University! According to our records, you registered to attend the On-Campus Synchronous program on (    ) . Please take a moment to review the following important information AND follow all pre-arrival instructions.

Travel to Campus:

Driving to Campus: If you are driving to campus from near or far, please allow sufficient travel time so that you arrive on campus at the appropriate time.

  1. Flying into Conway, SC: If you are arriving to the area via plane, please DO NOT attempt to fly in the morning of your orientation program.
  2. Overnight Accommodations:  Discounted accommodations can be found using this link https://campustravel.com/university/coastal-carolina-university/
  3. Parking on Campus (Orientation parking map):

 

  • The morning of your program, park in the GG parking lot which is located adjacent to Highway 501 and then walk over to the Lib Jackson Student Union.

 

 

Program Check-in: Orientation check-in will begin promptly at 8 a.m. in the Lib Jackson Student Union. Only students should get in the check-in line; all guests should wait in designated area while their student checks in. Continental Breakfast will be available during and after check-in.

Attendance: Attendance at all sessions is required. The day will conclude with Academic Advisor meetings scheduled to run through 5 p.m. EDT, so please plan accordingly. You can access the complete orientation schedule here.

 

New Student Move-in: If you are moving into University Housing, you will be able to move in immediately following orientation.

 

What to do BEFORE Orientation (if you have not already done so):

  • Complete Online Orientation. Completing online orientation is required in order to work with your academic advisor and register for classes prior to attending orientation.
  • Submit Immunization/TB Risk Assessment Forms
    • Immunization/TB Risk Assessment Forms
      • Download, complete and submit both the Immunization Form and the Tuberculosis (TB) Risk Assessment form which are linked at coastal.edu/health/immunization.
      • Please allow 2 business days for processing. 
      • Students living in University housing will NOT be able to move-in unless this item has been completed!
      • CCU highly recommends but does not require the COVID vaccine for students.
  • Complete all remaining New Student Checklist Items.
    • New Student Checklist
      • Review and complete all of the remaining items on the New Student Checklist which includes the following among other steps:
      • Uploading a photo of yourself for your CINO Card via the CINO Card website by August 10, 2022. If you have trouble uploading a picture please call 843-349-6435.
      •  Complete- New Student Requirements FA22/SP23 in Moodle. All new undergraduate students are required to complete and pass the Get Inclusive - Voices for Change online alcohol and other drug, consent and sexual violence, and identities and inclusion by January 6, 2023. You can access the course beginning November 17, 2022 here: train.coastal.edu/course/ by logging in with your CCU username and password. If you are transfer student and have completed this course at your previous institution, please email proof of completion to checklist@coastal.edu along with your name and CCU ID number.
      • Ensure financial aid is in order prior to Orientation by following these helpful steps: Financial Aid Checklist
  • Request special accommodations. Please contact us in advance to request any special accommodations you may need so we can make proper arrangements.
  • Prepare your list of questions. What questions do you have that you would like answered by the end of orientation? Have a pen and paper handy to take notes and add to the list as the day unfolds.
  • Get EXCITED! Your orientation is almost here. Get ready to start making Coastal connections with the academic experience, resources, campus partners, and your fellow CHANTS! Remember, your college experience will be what YOU make of it so why not get started with an open mind, and adventurous spirit, and a great attitude! We are excited to support you, please join us in this excitement.

 

What to wear/have:

  • Comfortable clothes and walking shoes. CCU buildings can be cold, so come prepared to layer up and dress comfortably. You will be doing A LOT of walking so make sure you wear appropriate shoes.
  • Weather. Orientation will take place rain or shine and regardless of outside temperature, so please dress accordingly and be prepared for changes in the weather.

Congratulations on your acceptance to Coastal Carolain University! According to our record, you have not registered for Orientation, which is a requirement for all new incoming students

  • All incoming students are required to complete an orientation requirement.
  • The Spring 2023 Orientation Components are:
    • Asynchronous Online Orientation
    • One-day Synchronous Orientation (on campus in January 2023)
  • Up to two (2) family members can attend the in-person Family Orientation experience in conjunction with the student orientation. See more information about the Spring Family Orientation below.

  • Registration-
    • To access the registration system, visit our website, select your acceptance term and then your student population, read the instructions, and then click the registration link in the "Next Steps" list.
    • Please have a credit card or bank information available in order to pay the associated orientation fees.
    • If you will be registering family members for the Family Orientation experience, then you will need to know the correct email addresses for each family member registrant.
  • Confirm your CCU credentials- If you do not already know your CCU email address (username@coastal.edu) and password, please email admissions@coastal.edu to request your login credentials as you will need this information in order to upload your health forms and complete online orientation.
  • Submit your immunization recpords and TB Rish Assessment form. You MUST download, complete, and submit the following forms (coastal.edu/health/immunization) PRIOR to arriving on campus.
    • Immunization Form (Doctor's Signature required)
    • Tuberculosis Risk Assessment Form (must be dated and signed)
      • Note: CCU will not require the COVID vaccine for students in Spring 2023
    • Required Immunizations:
      • M.M.R. (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
        • 2 doses required at least 28 days apart for students born 1957 or later and all health sciences students
        • Dose 1 given at age 12 months or later.
        • Dose 2 given at least 28 days after first dose
      • Tetnus (Td or Tdap) vaccination within the last 10 years.
      • Residence Hall students under 25 years of age must provide proof of meningococcal vaccine or sign the waiver/declination on the Immunization/TB Risk Assessment Form.
    • Submission Instructions
      • Log into the Student Health Portal at https://coastal.medicatconnect.com with your CCU username and password.
        • Click on the Immunization tab > View History to see what is missing.
        • Click on the Immunization tab > Enter Data to enter your information.
        • Click on the Upload tab to upload your documents.
