E. Cater Floyd

E. Cater Floyd was born Nov. 26, 1924, in Conway, S.C. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina in 1947. He was president of Palmetto Chevrolet Company Inc., in Conway.

As a representative for the 15th Judicial Circuit, Floyd served on the board of trustees of the University of South Carolina from 1984-1996. While a trustee, Floyd supported and helped facilitate Coastal Carolina's transition from a branch campus of the University of South Carolina to an independent university in 1993.

At Coastal, Floyd was an ex officio member of the Coastal Educational Foundation from 1984 to 1990, and served as an officer for the CINO Club, Coastal's athletic support association.

Floyd was named an honorary founder of Coastal Carolina University in 1997.
