Cecil DuBose Brearley Sr., a former pastor of the Presbyterian churches in Conway and Myrtle Beach, was among the group of community leaders who met in 1954 to establish the Coastal Educational Foundation Inc. (CEF). He continued to support work with the college during his tenure as a director of the CEF from 1954 through the 1960s.
