Charles E. Hodges

Charles Edward Hodges was born April 2, 1931, in Tabor City, N.C. He graduated from Kings Business College in 1951 and was involved in many business enterprises in Horry County.

He was a member of the S.C. House of Representatives from 1969 until his death in 1982. During his years in the legislature, Hodges served as majority leader and was a ranking member of the House Ways and Means Committee. As a representative, Hodges supported higher education causes and played an important role in the expansion of Coastal Carolina from a two-year to a four-year institution. He was also instrumental in securing funding for the construction of Kimbel Library.

Hodges was posthumously named an honorary founder of Coastal Carolina University in 1998.
